Mumbai: Samajwadi Party legislator Rais Shaikh on Tuesday urged Speaker Rahul Narwekar to introduce biometric attendance for MLAs during assembly sessions.
In a letter to Narwekar, Shaikh highlighted that attendance for legislators in the assembly and council was still recorded manually, leading to delays. “Legislators are often in a rush to enter the House, which results in lengthy queues to sign the attendance register,” Shaikh said.
Shaikh said the legislature has made strides in adopting a paperless and digitised administrative process. “While we take pride in this digital transformation, legislators are still required to sign a register to mark their attendance,” he said.
To address this inefficiency, Shaikh proposed the implementation of a biometric system for attendance, noting that it would not only save valuable time for MLAs but also reduce the manpower needed for the process.
