Mumbai: One person died on Thursday after a wall collapse incident was reported in Mulund's Wayde Chawl next to Pandurang school in Kalpadevi pada.
The deceased has been identified as Dilip Verma (35) and according to civic officials, the person was injured during the collapse.
The officials said that the moment when the compound wall of an adjacent house came down crashing the deceased might have been standing there.
"The person got injured severely after the wall collapse. The actual cause of collapse is yet to be ascertained however we think that its because of the monsoon rains," said an official.
According to local MLA Mihir Kotecha, the area where the incident took place is a protected land for slum dwellers.
"One death has been reported in the incident and the rescue operation is over now. The place where the incident took place is a slum area which is protected by the government," said Kotecha.
The incident was reported around 7:28 pm on Thursday following which the Mumbai Fire Brigade was deployed into operation. The incident was labelled as L-1 by the MFB.
