MUMBAI: A teenager addicted to her cell phone lost her life in Bhoiwada on January 12, in tragic circumstances, after experimenting while watching an online video, said a family friend. The person claimed that the girl was drawn by the voice and entire theme of videos shown on Astral Travel, a You Tube channel. These videos speak of the soul coming out of the body, reaching the heaven and re-entering the body within a few minutes.

Her family members would scold her and prevent her from seeing these videos. But, over a period of time, she got addicted and began experimenting as she watched the videos. Before this incident, she had once attempted to go in to deep sleep like a dead body, but her grandmother got angry and stopped her from indulging in such experiments. The girl was upset and shouted at her grandmother for preventing her from reaching heaven and returning to her body, which she claimed would have taken only a few minutes.

After this argument, the upset teen went inside the toilet to experiment yet again and avoid being getting caught by her family. When after a while she did not open the toilet door, her grandmother went to check on her. The lady was shocked to see the teen had tied a scarf around her neck and was hanging from a clothes hanger in the bathroom while she was seen struggling to breathe. The grandmother shouted for help and family members and neighbours rushed the girl to KEM Hospital.

The young girl was admitted on January 10 and after struggling for survival, lost her life around Saturday midnight. Ramesh Jagtap, a family friend who stays in the same building, said, “We are indeed sad with what has happened to the girl. Sadly, she was addicted to her mobile and was regularly watching Astral Travel videos on You Tube. She was eager to learn what would happen to her if she did what was shown in those videos. We appeal to all parents to keep a close watch on their children, to avoid repeat of such things and educate them regarding the consequences of mobile addiction.
