Mumbai: A senior official of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has been booked for abetment of suicide after his wife allegedly took her own life at their Kandivali residence, police said on Sunday.
The 42-year-old woman was found dead in her flat in the Lokhandwala area of Kandivali East on Saturday evening. Following a complaint by her brother, the Samata Nagar police registered a case against her husband, the Deputy Registrar at MHADA and her mother-in-law, Yamabai Katare, under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to officials, the woman had made a distress call to her family doctor shortly before her death, stating that her family members were harassing her. When she stopped responding to further calls, the doctor alerted her relatives in Pune.
“Her family rushed to Mumbai and discovered that she had died by suicide,” a police official said, quoting preliminary information.
