Mumbai: Massive fire breaks out at Yeoor jungle, no casualties reported

Kalyan: A massive fire broke out in the outskirts of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Thane’s Yeoor jungle area on Friday evening. The fire spread across 3km, which was brought under control within two hours, said a forest officials.

The fire broke out in two different places, one in Manpada village and the second in Patalipada village situated in Thane’s Yeoor jungle. Two fire engines were rushed to Patalipada village site, while the forest team rushed to the Manpada village hill top to gauge the blaze as fire engines could not reach there.

No casualties have been reported in the blaze as the fire personnel managed to douse it within two hours. Forest departments and Balkumb fire station along with Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) officials were actively posted to render their prompt services.

“There is no access to the fire vehicles inside the forest which can reach on the top. Since the quickly spread across the jungle, we have asked the disaster management to alert all the police stations in the surrounding area,” said a forest officials.  Shivaji Mengale, fireman from Balkumb fire station said, “We received a call nearly around 6.30 pm on Friday. We rushed to the spot along with two fire engines.”

According to Rajendra Pawar, Range forest officer, “The fire started in the evening at around 6.30 pm. We formed three teams comprising 25 forest personnel and instructed them to go into three different directions along with fire machine equipment fire blower and fire beater. The fire was brought under control within two hours of the operation.”

Sujay Koli, Round officer of Yeoor forest said,”We received the information through the forest guards. We informed our superiors and rushed to the spot with fire equipment.We have doused the fire after two hours of fire fighting. Now the fire has been completely extinguished.”
