Mumbai: Husband held for stealing wife's valuables worth ₹52 lakh

The Shahu Nagar police has arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly stealing his wife's jewellery and cash worth ₹52 lakh. The accused identified as Idris Mohammad Shaikh has been arrested from Jhansi and police have recovered all the booty.

According to the police, the complainant Mariyam Shaikh, 47, a resident of Matunga Labour Camp wanted to start a business for which she had withdrawn ₹52 lakh from her bank account and kept at her house. Mariyam had sold her shop in Kalyan for the same. She removed cash from her bank account last week and kept in the house as she was planning to buy a property. The incident occurred on June 11, when she went to attend the marriage of her sister's son in Dharavi area. Her husband Idrish Shaikh, took the cash and gold ornaments from house and fled to his native place in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

When the complainant returned from the marriage she found cash and gold ornaments were missing. She approached the Shahu Nagar police station and registered a case for breach of trust against her husband.

During inquiry police found that Shaikh has switched off his mobile number and was using another SIM card. Police questioned few people and found Shaikh's current mobile number and after tracing his mobile location a police team was immediately dispatched to Uttar Pradesh.

The police managed to nab Shaikh with the help of local police station in Jhansi and he was brought to Mumbai and arrested in the case.
