Mumbai: Imran Qadir Khan (35), who sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident, passed away after battling for his life for over four months at J.J. Hospital. Following his death, Vikhroli Police have registered a case against an unidentified driver, who fled the scene without offering any assistance or informing authorities. Police are currently analyzing CCTV footage to trace the accused.

According to the Police, the accident took place on September 16, 2024, at Airoli Bridge on the Eastern Express Highway towards Mumbai. Imran, a resident of Mumbra and an employee at a company in Millennium Business Park, Ghansoli, was on his way to meet his sister, Rukhsar Khan, in Versova, Andheri. He was carrying her school certificate and other important documents.

Around 1 PM, while riding his bike on the Airoli-Mulund flyover, an unknown vehicle rammed into him, leaving him severely injured. Passersby rushed him to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Government Hospital in Kalwa for initial treatment. Due to inadequate facilities, he was later shifted to Criticare Hospital in Kurla and subsequently discharged after treatment.

Despite being discharged, Imran’s leg injury worsened, causing unbearable pain. He was admitted to Maternity and Orthopedic Hospital in Mumbra for further treatment. However, his health continued to deteriorate even after another discharge. Eventually, he was admitted to J.J. Hospital, where he remained under treatment until his death on December 27, 2024.

After Imran’s funeral, his brother Irfan Khan provided a statement to Vikhroli Police. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against the unidentified driver under charges of rash and negligent driving, causing death. Though the accident occurred in September 2024, the case was registered after Imran’s death confirmed the fatal outcome of the injuries. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending the driver responsible.
