A team of Matunga police has arrested a 24-year-old man from Bhuj for “hacking” two websites of a Mumbai-based firm after it allegedly refused to pay his salary.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the accused has been identified as Dipesh Buddhabhatti. Buddhabhatti was working with the Mumbai-based manufacturing company’s Bhuj unit in Gujarat; the company’s main branch is in Matunga. The cops have said that the company carried out most if business dealings through two websites, which were hacked last year, causing the firm to be down for two months and resulted in big losses. After two months when the websites were restored, the company’s representative filed a complaint with the Matunga police, and an FIR was registered.
After the FIR was registered a team was formed by police to track down the hackers. While investigating the case the cops zeroed down Dipesh Buddhabhatti and traced his location to Bhuj. Buddhabhatti was arrested by the police on Tuesday. During the investigation, the cops found out that Buddhabhatti changed the password and domain number of the company’s websites.
The police said Buddhabhatti was a former employee of the company, but had not received a salary for a few months, and had then quit the job. The company did pay him his dues, but the accused wanted to take revenge and hence hacked the websites. He also confessed to committing the crime. The police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
