Grant Road brothel raided, 141 girls rescued

Mumbai: It has been a month since the Mumbai Police have started a drive against dance bars who are not following the Supreme Court guidelines. On Saturday, they went a step ahead and rescued 141 girls from an operational brothel in South Mumbai. This is said to be the biggest brothel raid in past 7-8 years. On Friday night, Port Zone’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rashmi Karandikar was on night petrol. After receiving tip of about the brothel in Kamathipura, a raid was conducted at Simplex building in Grant Road east where the brothel was running. During the raid, police rescued 141 girls and arrested 19 pimps along with 65 customers.

Raid was started around 2.50 am in the night and continued till 6.30 am,” said the police. During the raid pimps, brothel keepers, its owner and the customers were arrested and seized Rs 12.9 lakh” said an officer After the raids, all the arrested accused were handed over to DB Marg police station, rescued girls have been sent to rehabilitation centers while the pimps and customers were arrested under different sections of Indian Penal code (IPC) and Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.
