Head-On Generation is an advanced power supply system where electricity is drawn directly from the overhead electric (OHE) lines by the locomotive and supplied to train coaches for air conditioning, lighting, and other onboard electrical needs. This system replaces the conventional End-On Generation (EOG) method that relies on noisy, diesel-powered generator cars.

"The transition to HOG technology has proven transformative, significantly reducing diesel consumption and harmful emissions, while improving passenger comfort with quieter operations. By eliminating the need for two diesel generator cars per train, Indian Railways is not only cutting operational costs but also reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility" said an official of CR.

Central Railway’s progress in implementing HOG underscores Indian Railways’ larger mission to modernize infrastructure while aligning with national energy and climate objectives.

"This initiative marks a significant milestone in Indian Railways’ broader green transformation strategy, paving the way for cleaner, more efficient train operations across the country" further added official.
