22-year-old boy jumps into Mumbra creek after break-up with girlfriend

Thane: A 22-year-old man from Mumbra committed suicide by jumping into Mumbra creek on Tuesday afternoon. The Mumbra police, fire brigade and Regional disaster management cell of Thane are searching for him and are yet to recover his body from the creek. The police alleged that the boy was under depression after he was left by his girlfriend. So he took the extreme step.

According to the Regional disaster management cell of Thane Municipal corporation the incident took place at 1:40pm on Tuesday. He is identified as Arbaz Moinnudin Shaikh 22, a resident of Thakurpada in Mumbra. "He jump from Chuha bridge in Mumbra into the creek and committed suicide. The fire brigade, local police and regional disaster management cell along with local fisherman are trying to trace him," said an official from RDMC.

Natiq Shaikh, friend of Arbaz who accompanied him at the time of the incident said, "Arbaz was under depression after some issue with his girl friend. He was with me from Monday and didn't went home. I was counseling him to leave the girlfriend and start a new life. On Tuesday afternoon we were traveling in an auto-rickshaw. When incidentally he get down from the running auto-rickshaw to jump into the creek. Before we could realise he had drowned. With the help of locals, I contacted the police who reached the spot," added Shaikh.

Arbaz's father, who was also at the spot, claims they were not aware about his son being depressed. "Through his friend we came to know that he was depressed as he never told us about any such thing. We are waiting for Tuesday, as the search operation is going on," said Moinuddin claiming on Tuesday night the officials called-off the rescue operation as it was high tide.

Santosh Kadam, head of Regional disaster management cell of TMC said, "We are yet to trace Arbaz. Our team including fire brigade officials along with local fisherman are trying to trace him. We are trying our best to trace him," added Kadam.
