SAPNA SARFARE tells you how to dress in style and be cool in winter.

It’s December and steadily, the winter chill has started to send shivers down the spine. Out come the shawls, sweaters and tons of clothing to keep the winter chills away. But do not let the cold keep you away from being dressed in your finest. And this is where you have to make sure that you get the right advice from the people in the fashion world. This winter, we will have something new to look forward to wow the dry and drab atmosphere. Designers Swapnil Shinde and Tanieya Khanuja bring us the predictions to colour the season.

It is definitely the colours which matter in any season. Tanieya feels that Black, Aurora Red, Cobalt Blue, Misty Yellow and Mauve are perfect for beating the chilling atmosphere. “They will surely cheer one person up and put them in a light mood.” It is always good to add to the list, especially a good list like the colours in season. Swapnil adds that the biggest colour trend this season is Deep Amethyst, Topaz and Cherry Red.

Colours are of no use if you do not know where to use them. Understand that some fashion trends must be predicted so that you can wear them in the colour of the season. This winter, Swapnil has some fashion predictions which are straight from the international ramps. He adds, “The biggest fashion prediction for winter is that of Prints. Fall Floral are a huge trend for the winter. Velvet is making a huge comeback in terms of jackets, crop tops, skirts and even dresses.” Following the advice of her colleague, Tanieya suggests some trends which might add to one’s charm. She adds, “Trench coats for both men and women in camel hue are raging internationally. It gives a rather smart, sophisticated and chic look. But it all depends on how you style it.”

You always have personal favourites. It is but natural. Both the designers are keen to share their personal favourite winter styles which might work this season. Tanieya proclaims her love for soft pastel sweaters which will look great if they are paired with skin-tight jeans and beanie. The chic look is complete her, she says. Carrying the statement, Swapnil has an unusual love to add to this list. He adds, “The colour purple has always been my favourite and that it is making a comeback this winter is exciting.”

It is always great to get more dough on what one can opt for to wear. Swapnil is over the moon with purple. He suggests, “This winter, you can opt for over shirts in purple or velvet crop tops with knee length pencil skirts. For office wear, go for tweeds and wools in terms of skirts. Amongst pants, a high waist tweed pant with a basic white shirt is a classic.” It surely sounds simple. Tanieya too wants everyone to be fashionably dressed for whatever occasion possible. She further adds, “For casuals, women can pair a big light colour sweater with dark skin tight jeans with your hair pulled down. You’ll look chic and be ready to hang out with your friends. Men can go for a plain t-shirt paired with a leather jacket and worn out jeans and you’ll look handsomely rugged for a casual day out. For office, women can opt for a dark pencil skirt, chiffon top and a delicate looking cardigan or a trench coat. With the hair pulled up in bun, all this will give a smart and sophisticated look. Men can opt for a trench coat with their regular work outfit to look sharp and smart.”

And while you travel down the fashion lane to charge up for winters, it is very ideal to know about certain dos and don’ts to sort the awkward moments. Tanieya wants everyone to go for long woollen jackets to highlight woman’s curves and allows men to look broad shouldered. “Don’t ever wear furry boots and step out of your house. It is basically murdering fashion!” Swapnil further advices one and all to avoid overdoing the colour and layering. “Try to keep one element whether a stole, a jacket or a skirt the key element in your look.”

Accessories are a must have for any attire. Swapnil feels the biggest accessory trend this season are cuffs especially metal cuffs in gold, gun metal grey and black. Tanieya adds, “A monkey cap or a beanie would be the best accessory to ward off the chills this season.”

Finally, you have all the details to not just deal with the winters but also beat it with fashion. Some last would be the icing on the cake. Swapnil just reminds everyone to not forget moisturising oneself. Tanieya ends by stating, “No matter what the climate is, always step out in style to be the envy of the town.” With such fabulous predictions, winters can be a fun season to beat.
