Indore : The only crime the man — who tried to escape police by jumping off the first floor of collectorate building on Saturday – committed seems to be addicted to liquor and ganja.
He was rounded up by the Khajrana police under prohibitory orders during a drive launched to catch dreaded criminals. But, a day after the man panicked and got injured in the escape bid, police are unable to explain what made them arrest him in the first place. 30 years old Irshaad Khan was arrested under Section 151 of CrPC and police had claimed that Irshaad was roaming under suspicious condition on Friday night. He was under immense pressure and when he was produced before a sub divisional magistrate, he was sent for judicial custody.
Depressed over the injustice meted out to him, Irshaad fled from the police custody by opening a rope and when policemen chased him, a panicked Irshaad jumped off the first floor of the building at collector office on Saturday.
Police tried to justify his arrest by claiming that the accused used to consume liquor and Ganja prompting the police to take action. “The accused may certainly have past criminal record if police booked him under Section 151 and we are trying to scan the detail of the record” SP East OP Tripathi told Free Press.
