Under- construction overbridge collapses

Indore: A portion of the Teen- Imali chauraha to Khandwa Road overbridge came crashing down on Thursday morning leaving three persons injured. The Khandwa road side portion of the bridge collapsed. Its slab was laid a few days ago. Bhanwarkua police have registered a case against the company contractor and engineer in the matter. The incident took place at 8 am on Wednesday. According to Bhanwarkua police, the injured include Suribai ( 14), Meerabai ( 25) and Ratansingh ( 25) in the incident. The three injured were watering the surface of the bridge when the incident took place.

The company executing the construction work claims that a truck rammed into one of the pillars of the overbridge causing the mishap. However, police have denied this statement and have registered a case of use of substandard material as cause of the mishap. CSP Shashikant Kankane said that the bridge fell because of Construction

Company’s negligence and a case in this respect has been registered against the contractor Anupam and engineer K P Singh.

In afternoon the higher officials of the PWD including chief engineers B P Patel, superintending engineers Akhilesh Upadhyay and executive engineer Anand Mishra visited the site.

Probe panel: Collector Akash Tripathi told Free Press that the district administration has constituted a threemember inquiry committee which will submit its report within a week. The members of the panel include additional collector, superintending engineer of PWD and one representative from directors of SGITS.
