Indore : Telemedicine facility is likely to come up at MGM Medical College soon as the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has geared up to roping in partners for operations and management of the project.
“Once the Union ministry appoints partner agency for operations and management, the fate of the project will be decided” said MGM Medical College dean Dr MK Rathore.
MGM College is one of the 35 medical colleges across the country that have been shortlisted to be linked with leading medical facilities and colleges such as AIIMS and JIPMER for swift knowledge exchange and telemedicine practices.
A team of leading doctors had visited the college for assessing its standards in February. Subsequently, Dr Rathore had given presentation to the senior officials in New Delhi on the project and its plan of implementation it.
“For running telemedicine facility high speed internet is required which we already have. We need advance projectors and other equipment which will be installed once the project is approved,” he said.
From Madhya Pradesh, only MGM Medical College had given the presentation under the project so its chances of obtaining the telemedicine facility are quite bright.
As part of green field project under the central government scheme “E-Health including Telemedicine”, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has plans to set up telemedicine infrastructure in all medical colleges in a phased wise manner. Initially it is to start with 35 medical colleges.
The project will facilitate tele-education including knowledge sharing, tele- CME, sharing of surgical and interventional skills, virtual class room, capacity building and access to specialist consultation. This infrastructure would facilitate continued professional skill development of human resources for health (HRH).
