Solar cookers International announces Indian wing

Indore : Taking an initiative to extend the support hand, the Solar Cookers International has announced the initiation of Solar Cookers India. The same was announced by the Executive Director of Solar Cookers International, Julie Greene on the valedictory session of concluding the 3days workshop on Solar Cooking for Sustainable Future.

Dr (Mrs) Janak Palta McGilligan would head the Indian wing and serve as the Honorary Executive Director.

According to Ms Greene “Solar Cookers International seeks partnership with Solar Cookers India in the global movement of promoting solar cooking and saving the environment as well as health of 3 billion women cooking on open fire and 4 million women and children dying prematurely from household  air pollution.”

India has abundance of Solar Power and distinguished to have a special Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. “What I have seen during my trip to Gujarat and Indore region in Madhya Pradesh, significant initiatives have been taken in the area of Solar Energy but Solar Cooking needs special attention because it is still an underutilized technology. India has to play a lead role in South East Asia in the area of Solar Cooking”, added Greene.
