Indore : After lack of interest among the citizens, the Regional Transport Department has decided to extend the date of taking applications for authorising new Pollution Under Control (PUC) centres in the city for a month.

Earlier, the department had decided to take the applications till October 31 but they received only 20 forms to open centres across the city. “We have extended the time for taking applications for authorising the centre by one month.

More than 200 centres in the city will be started soon as the scheme for not providing petrol to vehicles will come into effect from June, next year,” Deputy Transport Commissioner Sanjay Soni said.

He said that they are also planning to install cameras at every centre to ensure the authenticity of the certificates issued by them.

“The cameras will be connected to the server of the RTO and it will be monitored there. We will also save the recordings of the CCTV cameras to avoid any objections later on,” Soni said.

It is to be noted that National Green Tribunal has asked the State Transport Department to inform about the steps taken by them to control the pollution done by vehicles. State Transport Department then decided to increase the number of pollution check centre in the state and sanctioned 3000 centres across the state including 200 centres in the Indore.
