Indore : District Collector P Narahari, on Thursday launched ‘Nirbadha Abhiyan’ to facilitate physically challenged and visually challenged persons to move about freely within the district.
Under ‘Nirbadha Abhiyan’ envisages construction of ramps and putting up Braille signboards at educational institutions, hospitals, government offices, private entities and other public places to facilitate physically challenged and visually challenged persons to move about freely.
In this connection, a meeting was held under the chair of Narahari on Thursday at Collectorate and close to dozen teams have been constituted during the meeting.
The teams comprise of government officials and representatives of NGOs and have been tasked to tour the district and submit their reports on efforts being made to facilitate physically challenged and visually challenged persons to move about freely.
Based on these reports suggestions would be made to improve upon the existing facilities and the team will tour the area again to ensure that the suggestions have been acted upon.
Jutting tiles, Braille sign boards, 900 mm wide passages, 900 to 1200 mm wide entrance and exits, ramps with defined gradient are some of the steps that need to be taken under the drive.
The drive has been launched successfully in Gwalior district and it was decided to launch it in the district now. Ashish Singh, Jilla Panchayat CEO, and officials of departments of Social Justice, PWD, Woman and Child Welfare and representatives of NGOs were present at the meeting.
