Indore : Denouncing the MPPMT scam, Medanta Medicity founder and noted cardio thoracic Dr Naresh Trehan here on Saturday said the scam is a blot on medical profession and added that the malpractice is not limited only to Madhya Pradesh.
“The menace of obtaining admission in medical colleges through malpractice is spread across the nation,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a two-day conference on review of medical best practices which began here on Saturday.
“Medicine is a noble profession and it is in itself a religion. Scam like Vyapam has left the medical fraternity in shock. Entering anybody’s body for sake of your own interest and money is a crime,” the leading cardiac surgeon said.
On queries pertaining to private medical colleges producing untrained manpower, Dr Trehan said “We would not like such manpower to treat our patients.”
“It’s true that private medical colleges are churning out untrained manpower. We are concerned over the issue and have conveyed our concerns to Medical Council of India,” he added.
He said that the people can bring about the change by ridiculing poorly skilled or untrained manpower in the medical field.
On Medanta plans for the State, Dr Trehan said they chose to open medical facility in Indore in the interregnum. “We hope people here to have an experience of excellence with the convergence of great minds such as Dr Sandeep Shrivastava and Dr Rajneesh Kachhara. The ultimate aim is to create a world-class facility for the eight crore people of MP.”
Stating that they have expansion plan in the city, Dr Trehan said that a bigger Medanta facility will come up here if hurdles for our proposed medical college are cleared at the earliest.
“Quota system in medical college is a concern”
Talking tough on caste-based quota system for admission in medical colleges, Dr Trehan said, “It is another problem in our country. Here, caste defines merits. One can obtain admission in medical college through quota, but ultimately it is skills and training that is required to treat patients. There no quota helps.”
He said that people should raise voice against quota system in fields like medical. “If people are determined then all issues can be fixed without any problem,” he added.
