Indore : District Health Department may soon launch its Mobile Combat Unit once again to control spread water and vector-borne diseases. The department had dissolved the unit about two years ago after administrative lapses.
Last year, District health department had tough time controlling the menace of water borne diseases as large number of dengue and malaria patients were witnessed. This year, the Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) unit has sent the proposal to the Chief Medical and Health Officer to start the unit at the earliest.
“Yes, we have sent a proposal to the CMHO for launching the mobile combat unit for dealing with the attack of seasonal diseases. The unit will be comprised with a doctor, two nurses, one pharmacist and other staff equipped with a well-equipped ambulance,” IDSP In-charge Dr GL Sodhi said.
He further said that the team will work for six days in a weak and will visit the places where the prevalence of seasonal diseases is high.
“We have marked various areas on the basis of the prevalence of diseases, last year. We found maximum number of cases in these areas including Khajrana, Chandan Nagar, Sudama Nagar and Usha Nagar Extension. The combat team will make a daily report of these areas and will take appropriate actions required,” Dr Sodhi added.
On the reasons about dissolving the unit earlier, Dr Sodhi said, “It was dissolved due to some administrative lapses. The then CMHO didn’t find the combat team useful and shifted the doctors and staff to other places. Budget was also the issue of closing the unit.” CMHO Dr Shantilal Porwal said, “We received a proposal from the IDSP wing. We are reviewing the proposal and will launch the service at the earliest after making few changes in proposal if required.”
