Indore : Pre-placements offers at Indian Institute of Technology Indore this year are indicating towards a startling reverse in the trend.
Mechanical engineering branch that had been witnessing least number of campus placements at this premier technical institute for the last two years is showing an upward trend. And electrical engineering branch that maintained second position in last two placements seems to be going down. Computer science branch so far is maintaining its position but no surprise if mechanical engineering branch continuing its joyride on the changed scenario outsmarted it.
According to IIT-Indore officials, some automobile companies have made fat job offers to mechanical engineering branch students in pre-campus placements while a few others have promised to hire students from this branch in handsome numbers.
Given the response of the companies, students of this branch are on upbeat and are expecting job officers in the initial stage of campus placements that are to start in December.
One e-commerce major too has offered a package of Rs 11 lakh per annum to seven students from computer science, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering branches.
The highest on campus package offered to any student at IIT Indore have crossed the last year figure of Rs 22 lakh per annum. However, the figure of the package is not disclosed as yet. But the institute stated that nearly 40 per cent of the batch has been offered jobs in PPOs.
“Several companies have made pre-placement offers to the students. So far, 45 students have accepted the offers. The highest on campus placement package has also crossed the last year’s figure,” said Nirmala Menon, media coordinator, IIT Indore.
Pre-placement offers usually start from July-August and go on till October-November at the premier technical institutes in the country.
The final placement starts from December. Seeing the initial response from the industry, the IIT Indore placement cell is expecting early placements this year. However, other IITs also have witnessed rise in PPOs.
Once a mentor of IIT Indore, IIT Bombay has witnessed a rise of 25 percent in PPOs compared to last year.
