SANAWAD (KHARGONE DISTRICT): Controversy has erupted over land acquisition by the National Highway Development Corporation (NHDC) for Indore-Ichhapur highway four-lane road. The affected villagers alleged that compensation is being fixed arbitrarily.
Farmers Hukumchand Malgaya and Balakram Choudhary, Inder Birla, Balakram Shejgayan, Babu Choudhary, Dinesh Patlya of nearby village Bhanbarad told about the discrepancies in the compensation and alleged that till now the farmers have not been told what is the basis of compensation for their land?
Malgaya said that there is a sweet lime orchard on his land, for which the compensation for one tree was earlier fixed at Rs 1,400 and when he took objection, the compensation for one tree was fixed at Rs 3,000. He said that other farmers are getting Rs 10,000 per tree as compensation.
Balakram Choudhary said that the compensation fixed for his house by NHDC is completely unjustified. The aggrieved farmers said that the attention of Khargone district collector and Barwah SDM’s attention has been drawn towards the discrepancies in compensation.
The aggrieved farmers said that till the discrepancies in compensation are not removed, they will not give up the possession of their land. The aggrieved farmers said that if proper compensation was not given and the discrepancies in compensation were not removed, then they would go on an agitation.
