Indore : Geeta, the deaf and dumb girl living in Pakistan for more than 10 years, was welcomed by deaf and dumb students at her new home, ‘Indore Deaf Bilingual Academy’ at Scheme 71 on Tuesday.
Students of the institute welcomed her arrival and they decorated the institute on their own. Along with preparing placards, they also arranged name of ‘Geeta’ with flowers in the institute premises.
Geeta turned emotional after seeing large number of students like her in the institute and expressed her happiness to communicate with them.
During the welcome ceremony, MLA Archana Chitnis expressed her gratitude towards the Edhi Foundation and both Pakistani and Indian Governments.
Mayor Malini Gaud described Geeta as ‘Daughter of Indore’ and said that she will live in Indore with the same love and respect which she is getting from across the world.
Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot praised the authorities of Indore Deaf Bilingual Academy and thanked the media for their commendable work and support in the return of Geeta. Irritated by cameras, she requested to take rest
Students and management of the institute prepared a separate room for her and students also decorated the room for her welcome.
Since her arrival, she has been facing large number of cameras and media glare. In Indore too media welcomed her with flashes and microphones.
Irritated over cameras, she requested the coordinators of the institute that she needed rest. The coordinators helped her in settling in the room and served her food which she liked most.
We will help her in skill development: Monica
Coordinator of Deaf Bilingual Academy, Monica Punjabi said Geeta didn’t get basic education in Pakistan. Here, we would provide her skill development so that she can be able to live on her own.
Monica said that Geeta was willing to meet Bollywood actor Salman Khan and since her arrival, she was requesting to meet him as early as possible.
“She doesn’t know anything about Indore and other cities in India and we will help her to know the country,” Monica said.
