Jewellers begins stir: Rs 60 cr business hit

Indore : Over Rs 60 business affected in the city when jewellers and bullion traders called for bandh  on Wednesday. Over 2,000 jewellery shops including 1500 shops of Sarafa downed their shutters.

They are protesting the proposal to impose 1% excise duty on gold and diamond jewellary.

Anil Ranka, publiclity secretary of Indore Sona Chhandi Jawaharat Vyapari Association, informed that the association had decided to extend the strike for two more days. Hence, the strike would continue till Friday and all the 2000 shops across the city would remain closed.

Ranka said that on the first day of the strike on Wednesday, all shops in the city remained closed. Even showrooms were also closed.

Ranka further said that they had got permission from the ADM and TI of police to sit on dharna on Thursday and Friday at Sarafa Square.
