Indore : Students from Jabalpur outsmarted their counterparts from Indore in gaining entry into Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Centre (RRCAT) for utilising its world-class infrastructure to hone their skills.

Unlike the summer season wherein 47 students out of 94 selected from across the country for project work at RRCAT were from Indore, merely three students of science and engineering streams from the city managed to make it to the Centre for winter season.

All these three students are from Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology Science and Technology (SGSITS).

With five students, Jabalpur stood first in the state to get maximum number of students placed at RRCAT this time. Bhopal students equaled in numbers with that of Indore counterparts.

However, good news for the state is that it leads across the country in maximum number of placements at RRCAT for project work. As many as 11 students out of 45 selected from across the country are from MP followed by Rajasthan (9), Kerala (8) and Uttar Pradesh (5).

In summer season, more than 50 per cent candidates selected from the country were from Indore while one candidate was from Jabalpur. Jabalpur students improvised and got more seats from themselves in the winter season.

The RRCAT offers opportunities to students pursuing degree in science and engineering from recognised institutions in the country for carrying out project work towards partial fulfillment of their degree. At present projects are offered to students pursuing the following degrees in MPhil, MSc, ME and MTech.

This scheme has no prescribed training programme/curriculum. Each selected student has to carry out the project individually under the guidance of a scientist/engineer of RRCAT, on all working days.

Project duration is from minimum six months to 12 months.

To apply for the project work from RRCAT, the student needs to send his/her application in the prescribed form. Application for the project work must be accompanied with the certificate of bonafide student issued only by principal/ head of the institute.

Selection criteria are academic profile of the student and availability of suitable project guide in the area of interest of student. Period for the winter and summer projects will be from December 10 to June 9 and June 10 to December 9 respectively in the calendar year. Last dates for receiving applications for winter and summer projects are October 1 and April 1 respectively in every calendar year.
