Indore: The much-awaited Narmada river water reached through taps in Nipania, a place known for townships in the city, on Tuesday. A Kalash Yatra was taken out by women there to mark event and Narmada Jayanti. “Water reached Hare Krishna Vihar, Amrit Palace, Goyal Avenue, Gulmohar Resort and one more township on Narmada Jayanti,” said Balram Verma, water works incharge at Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC).
According to Verma, 27 townships in Nipania would be provided water through taps. “About 3,000 families will benefit from the project. In next phase, IMC would install pipelines in areas adjacent to Nipania,” he added. As the river water reached their localities, women celebrated the occasion by taking out a Kalash Yatra. Mayor Malini Gaud also reached the locality to attend the Narmada Jayanti pogramme.
“She was greeted and thanked for providing water to townships and colonies of Nipania, which depended on tankers to supply water,” Verma said. Nearly 50 percent of townships of Indore are located in Nipania and adjacent areas. They depend on bore-wells and water supplied through tankers.
Last year, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated a project for laying pipeline for supply water to townships in Nipania area. As part of AMURT project, the IMC laid 400 MM, 250 MM and 200 MM pipelines in the locality. Now it is giving bulk tap connections to townships. While supply of water has started through taps in five townships, the work is in progress for bulk connections in Apollo DB City and BMC Paradise.
