Indore : ‘Indore Talab aur Jal Samiti’ organised their first official meeting at Government Holkar Science College. With an aim to work towards lake conservation around the city, the meeting was organised on Friday following world wetland day, which is celebrated on Feb 2.

The meeting was attended by lake conservative activists from IMC, IDA, academicians, media persons, private firm owners and community members. The first draft of the vision document with the proposed working of the organisation was discussed during the meet.

“Indore has 26 lakes around the city, which are shrinking because of inadequate preservation measures,” Megha Burvey, a consultant said.

The draft proposed working with four pillars allotting duties to members based on their professions. The first pillar would the local community members, who will be responsible for monitoring the state of the lakes, pollution control, and awareness programs.

The second pillar will be formed by the government department authorities who will ensure that the laws for lake conservation are facilitated. “We need all kinds of people, government officials are essential for facilitating the bureaucratic procedure of passing the necessary laws,” Burvey added.
