Indore: Nearly two months after the announcement, the DAVV finally issued notification officially transferring detained medical and dental students to Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University in Jabalpur. “Medical and dental students are no more our liability. The coordination committee has asked the traditional universities to shift the detained students to MPMSU for completion of their courses. We have complied with the directions,” DAVV vice chancellor Narendra Dhakad said.
Unfolding the past, colleges running medical, dental, paramedical, nursing, ayurveda, unani, homeopathy and other related courses were brought under umbrella of MPMSU a year after it was established in 2011. In initial year, MPMSU took only new batches under its jurisdiction whereas the traditional universities continued with older batches till they graduated. The final batches of MBBS, BDS and other related courses passed out last year from DAVV but nearly 1200 students were detained.
For them, the university was required to conduct 51 exams in different subjects this year. Still there was no guarantee that they all will clear the exams. “Since there is no duration for completion of medical course, the university would have to examine till the last detained student walk out of the campus. We never know when that would happen so a demand was raised to shift onus of holding exams for detained students on MPMSU. The coordination committee accepted our request,” Dhakad said. He said MPMSU would hold exams for detained students and declare results. “Our responsibility will be to prepare mark sheets as per declared results and award degrees,” Dhakad said.
