Indore: Ajay Kumar Chouhan, principal chief commissioner of income tax MP and Chhattisgarh, on Monday told tax payers to pay taxes and don’t force authorities to “coerce into paying them”. Chouhan was addressing an open house of income tax department organised by Ahilya Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Jall auditorium on Monday. The advanced tax has to be paid by March 15 while returns are to be filed by March 31. While commending honest tax payers, he said department’s grievance redressal rate is 93.4%. “We are also leading in tax refunding,” he remarked.
Talking about self-assessment by advance tax payers, he said they pay tax as per norm in first quarter but under-calculate or evade in last quarter. “Such people or companies come on our radar. I have complete data of 2018-19 of such people. I request them to pay tax honestly. I am warning them, I have a list of 1490 people who did not pay tax,” he said. Acting tough, he said they should not force him to ensure that they pay self assessment tax honestly. “Nor should they force me to take strict action against them,” he remarked.
‘Let’s make CC I-T Indore no 1’
Expressing happiness over Indore retaining India’s cleanest city tag for third consecutive year, Chouhan called upon tax payers to make CC I-T Indore region number one in tax collection for second time this year. Last year, the region had registered tax collection growth rate of 34.9%, which was highest in the country. Talking about this year performance, he said this year’s target for MP-CG is Rs 27,431 crore out of which Rs 17,705 crore have been received, which is 11% high from last year and more than national average. Similarly, 42.2% more refunds are made. There are 10.90 lakh tax payers. About 115 surveys were conducted this year. As for widening of tax base, 96 per cent target has been achieved in CC I-T Indore region. In all, two lakh new tax payers have been added. Last year, this figure was 2.10 lakh.
Sharing his data, Chouhan said 2,100 companies of the state, which did not file return are on department’s radar. Likewise, 1,209 tax payers have been identified who have submitted tax audit report but have not filed the return. The last chance for them to file return is March 31 after which they will not be able to file it due to amendments in Income Tax Act.
