Indore: Nearly one-and-a-half-years after semester system was scrapped and annual pattern of examinations was reintroduced in colleges in the state, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Prof DP Singh termed MP government’s move as something which is “uncalled for”.

“MP government should have not looked back (reintroduced annual system),” he told reporters here on Sunday. The state government had introduced semester system in colleges in 2008 but scrapped it in 2017 bringing back the traditional yearly pattern of exams for under graduate courses.

Singh said government should review its decision as semester system is need of the time. Advocating more empowerment, Singh said universities should have autonomy to prepare their own curricula. “There should be diversity in syllabi,” he remarked when pointed out that state government has imposed unified curricula in universities.
