Indore: The price of milk will go up by Rs 2 per litre from April 1. Indore Doodh Vikreta Sangh has announced the hike on Sunday. Decision to hike the price was taken at the executive committee meeting of the Sangh held here on Saturday. It was presided over by Sangh president Bharat Mathurawala. Mathurawala said customers who were paying Rs 40 per litre and Re 1 as home delivery charge per litre would now have to pay Rs 42 per litre and Re 1 service delivery charge for milk with fat content of 5.5 to 6 per cent, which will sum up to be Rs 43 per litre.
He said shopkeepers selling open milk were charging Rs 42 per litre earlier. Now, they will add Re 1 per litre while the expenses of maintaining shop and labour will be added by them, which will be Rs 2. So, the shopkeepers selling open milk will be selling milk at Rs 44 per litre. The increase in milk price is due to rise in cost of cattle fodder and reduction in milk production.
