Indore: Merely one compliant of ragging has been filed from the city with anti-ragging helpline of University Grants Commission (UGC) whereas the number from the state’s capital is 11.  Madhya Pradesh, which stood second in the country with 104 complaints last year, has seen 26 complaints of ragging in year 2019 so far and continues to remain on the second slot. Uttar Pradesh with 30 complaints so far remains on the top of the list.  The most concerning fact for Madhya Pradesh is that no concrete efforts have been made by the government to check cases of ragging in the institutions of higher education in the state. Resultantly, the state remains second on the disgraceful list.

Bhopal, which had witnessed 30 complaints of ragging last year, has made a disappointing start this year too as 11 complaints have been from institutions of higher education in the state’s capital with anti-ragging helpline so far. Besides, four complaints each have been filed from Gwalior and Rewa.  The only good news for MP is that its educational hub, which had seen six cases of ragging till mid-March, has witnessed merely one compliant during the same period this year.

Only one compliant of ragging was reported with anti-ragging helpline last week from Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya.  Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya dean of student welfare Dr Laxmikant Tripathi stated that they had taken strict action against ragging cases took place last year sending a clear and loud message to students that there is a “zero tolerance” policy on ragging.  “Following our strict policy and constant vigil in hostels, classrooms, canteen, we have succeeded in containing ragging,” he added.
