Indore: BEd colleges in the city, which were on upbeat due to allotment of students on nearly 65 percent of total vacant seats, are now disappointed as the allocations did not convert into admissions. Merely 30 per cent seats in colleges here got filled in the first round of centralised online admission counseling for BEd course. Out of 3,400 seats in 32 BEd colleges in the city, 2,386 seats are still lying vacant after the first round of counselling.
That means only 1014 students took admission against 3050 seats in the colleges here. These figures surfaced when MPOnline, a service provider of the state government, released list of vacancies at BEd colleges across the state for the second round of counselling. A closer look at the list revealed that maximum number of seats was filled in Shri Yashwant Singh BEd College in the city. As many as 53 out of 100 seats were filled in this college followed by New Era College (52 seats) and Col Fateh Jang College (46). “Out of 32 colleges in the city, 6 received below 20 percent admissions,” said Sunil Pandya, director of Parijat College.
BEd colleges held Department of Higher Education accountable for poor admissions. They stated that the DHE did not share contact details of students allocated seats in their colleges because of which allocations could not convert into admissions.
“If provided with contact details, we would have invited students to come to college and complete the formalities for admission. But that could not happen,” said Matushree College director Rambabu Sharma.
Choice-filling for other NCTE courses also begins
Choice-filling for other NCTE courses, which could not start with BEd programme, began on Thursday. MPOnline opened online window for students registered for admissions in programmes– BEd, MPEd, BPEd, BSc-BEd, BA-BEd, BEd-MEd and BELEd. The first round of admission counseling for courses, except BEd programme, regulated by National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) failed to start in Madhya Pradesh as the regulatory body could not approve the list of recognised colleges. After the DHE sent approved lists of other courses also, the choice-filling window was opened. Meanwhile, the registrations for the second round of BEd started on Thursday.
