Indore: Irked by non-implementation of seventh pay commission recommendation for medical teachers in the state, Medical Teachers’ Association has decided to go on indefinite strike next month if state government doesn’t accept their demand.

On Monday, Association members submitted memorandum to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College dean Dr Jyoti Bindal in this regard. The medical teachers had raised demand earlier and met senior officials and ministers in this connection.

“The government has implemented 7th pay benefits for employees of all departments. If they can give it to doctors of health department and ESIC, then there should not be any problem in giving it to medical teachers,” secretary of Madhya Pradesh Medical Teachers’ Association, Indore, Dr Rahul Rokade said.

He said Congress government mentioned about facilities to doctors in its manifesto. “We are trying to meet the medical education minister and chief minister to press for our demand,” he remarked. “We demand that government should take immediate step for welfare of medical teachers as government has started seven new medical colleges.

Motivation is necessary for teachers as well,” Dr Rokade added. Medical education department has adopted time bound promotion and policies from other departments. Earlier, faculty members and staff of MGM Medical College paid tribute to martyrs of Pulwama attack in college auditorium.

Ban on pvt practise

Former additional chief secretary of medical education department Radheshyam Julania had asked medical teachers to stop private practise to get benefit of seventh pay commission. After his transfer to Centre, Association raised the demand again.
