Indore: In a major success, Indore Commissionerate of Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) department on Wednesday nabbed the mastermind of Rs 1100 crore Input Tax Credit (ITC) scam from Ahmedabad. He was later flown into the city. This is the third arrest in the case. The Rs 1,100 crore ITC scam was the first fraud case to be reported from the state after rolling out of the GST. The fraud was unearthed in December by the CGST Department.
A high ranking officer of CGST Indore Commissionerate told Free Press that teams were working overtime for the last two months to nab mastermind Raju Thakkar. However, the accused kept on changing his location. He further said that for the last five days, a team had been camping in Ahmedabad. Lady luck smiled on the team on Tuesday and Thakkar appeared on its radar. Later, one of the team member Yashpal arrested Thakkar from his medical shop on Wednesday morning.
Later in the day Raju was flown from Ahmedabad to Indore by flight and finally brought to the CGST Commissionerate office at Manik Bagh. The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of CGST Indore Commissionerate Neerav Kumar Mallick and Supervision of Joint Commissioner Virendra Kumar Jain. Members of the team were Superintendents Rajesh Soni and Anil Acharya and inspectors Sandip Garg, Sandip Singh, Naveen and Yashpal. Raju is likely to be produced in the court on Thursday.
