Indore: A special court on Wednesday sentenced a man to jail till his last breath for sexually assaulting two minor sisters, one aged 2 and another 5 years. Judge Varsha Sharma handed down the sentence and slapped a fine of Rs 1.04 lakh on the convict.
The convict would have to undergo additional term if he failed to pay the compensatory amount to the victims. District prosecution officer Mohammed Akram Shaikh said 50-year-old Ramesh Bheel, a resident of colony under Chhatripura area, had raped two minor sisters living in his neighbourhood on May 2, 2016.
The victims were playing outside their house when Bheel reached there and took away both of them telling their mother that he would purchase chocolates for girls. When the duo sisters did not return, their mothers went to Bheel’s house only to see them crying and accused sexually assaulting them.
When the woman shouted for help, Bheel fled. Later, a complaint with Chhatripura station was lodged against the accused. When the incident came to light, the state government described it as a heinous crime and directed police to ensure that the investigation is completed and subsequently accused is awarded sentence as early as possible. “The prosecution produced seven witnesses in the case and sought rigorous punishment for the accused,” assistant public prosecutor Aarti Bhadoria said.
