The state cyber cell on Wednesday arrested a man from Sonkutch for creating fake profile of a girl on Facebook. The accused had morphed the pictures of victim and sent them to her messenger. Superintendent of Police (cyber cell) Jitendra Singh said victim had lodged a complaint on Tuesday. She told police that unidentified person has created a fake profile on Facebook and sent her obscene photos on it. The accused had sent friend request to her, which she accepted. Later, the accused started chatting with her.
After receiving a complaint, cyber cell officials registered a case under sections of IPC and IT Act against unidentified person and started investigation. During the investigation, the accused was identified as Rashmikant Sharma, a resident of Gadkhajuria, Sonkutch. Later, he was arrested from his residence. He works as a ‘katha vachak’ in the village.
The accused told cell officials that he used to create fake profiles to chat with girls and friends. He had created a fake profile where he posed as a girl and sent the friend request to the victim, which she accepted. He had saved photos of girl after which he manipulated the photos and posted them to her.
A mobile phone and SIM used in the crime were seized by cell officials. The investigating team obtained records of email of accused and found him through his IP address. Jitendra Singh advised the girl to use security features while posting images and avoid accepting anonymous friend request.
