The income tax department on Monday found jewellery worth Rs 48 lakh from lockers of family of Pravin Kakkad, the OSD of chief minister of Kamal Nath. On the second day of search on Monday, the income tax department officers were busy tracking lockers of Kakkad family. Though the department did not seized cash or jewellery, it investigated into luxury cars, which Kakkad family owns. They are registered in other names.
According to information, the department officers took Sadhna Kakkad, wife of Pravin Kakkad, to IDBI Bank to check her lockers. Other officers took Salil Kakkad, son of Pravin Kakkad, from his house at Vijay Nagar to his office at BCM Heights.
With his help, officials collected documents. Later in afternoon, Salil was taken to Union Bank of India to check his locker. The department sleuths found jewllery worth Rs 48 lakh from lockers of Sadhna and Salil Kakkad.
Meanwhile, search and survey continued on second day at all the six locations on Monday. The search team collected documents from residence of Lalit Chhablani at Janki Nagar who is a partner of Pravin Kakkad in Jalwa Garden. Sources said Pravin maintained record of all financial dealings properly. He has kept record of gold jewellery he purchased from time to time.
The department officials waited for return of Kakkad family’s chartered accountant Rakesh Raka. But he did not turn to city till Monday night. The investigation wing of income tax department from New Delhi launched a country-wide search including Indore city in the wee hours on Sunday at the premises of Pravin Kakkad, his partner Lalit Chhablani and CA Rakesh Raka and his associates.
