Indore: Toeing the line of Oxford and Cambridge Universities, government colleges in the state would also track their alumni to know how they fared after passing out. As part of Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Quality Improvement Project of World Bank, department of higher education (DHE) has directed government colleges across the state to launch a system for tracking alumni.
The system will help to know whether their students got placement or whether he/she is pursuing PhD, MPhil or doing family business. If the student has failed to get placement, then the college would help him to get a job or support him to take entrepreneurial route.
Holkar Government Science College has taken the lead with the launch of a web portal for tracking its alumni. “We have sent emails and SMSes to students who walked out of campus in 2018 asking them to register on portal while giving all details about them,” said college administrative officer RC Dixit.
Nearly 1800 students of BSc and MSc graduated from the college in 2017-18. Of them, nearly 250 students have registered on the portal. For the rest, the college is making calls to ensure that they register by February end. “We will send information to DHE about tracking students of 2017-18 session and making a database,” Dixit said.
Government Old Girls Degree College has also started tracking ex-students. College principal Sumitra Waskel said commerce, science and arts departments have been told to collect information regarding their students and provide information to college administration by month end.
“We will also develop a dedicated portal for registering our alumni,” Sumitra Waskel said. New GDC, Atal Behari Vijaypayee Government and Arts Commerce College and New Science College stated that they would begin this process soon whereas Government Law College stated it will create a database by next week.
