Indore: Associate professor of anaesthesia department at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Dr VS Bhatia has obtained stay on his transfer to Chhindwara Medical College. Dr Bhatia had filed a petition at Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court against his transfer.

Dr Bhatia’s counsel told court that the petitioner had received the orders to join Chhindwara Medical College on February 11 but didn’t get any orders of transfer or deputation. He received the orders only on February 14. The petitioner also said he is counted as faculty member of MGM Medical College by Medical Council of India and therefore he cannot be counted as faculty of Chhindwara Medical College simultaneously. Judge Vandana Kasrekar stayed his transfer order.

Before taking legal recourse, Dr Bhatia received a show cause notice from Madhya Pradesh Medical Council in which the council asked him to explain why his registration with the council should not be suspended. In the notice served to Dr VS Bhatia, State Medical Council found him guilty under Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquettes and Ethics) Regulation 2002 for not joining Chhindwara Medical College.  Meanwhile, Medical Teachers’ Association has opposed show-cause notice issued to Dr Bhatia and decided to raise the issue before department officials.
