Indore : People celebrated ‘Dussehra’ with religious fervor, on Thursday. On the occasion, giant effigies of Demon King, Ravan, were burnt at various places of the city as a sign of victory of good over evil.

The Dussehra Mahotsav Samiti erected a 111-foot high effigy of Ravan, which was burnt along with his Lanka. The dahan and consequent celebratory activities were held at historic Dussehra Maidan. This year’s ‘Ravan Dahan’ ceremony witnessed an automated Ravan effigy.

The enthusiasm of people multiplied after seeing amalgamation of technology, design and colour on the effigy. When the Dahan commenced, large arrows were shot at the effigy, causing Ravan’s head to turn as fire came out of his mouth and his eyes were also swirled.

‘Ravan Dahan’ was followed by exchanges of congratulatory greetings amongst the audiences, as a generous display of colorful pyrotechnics happened in the skies. This added a whole new dynamic of festive joy and fervor amidst all those in audience.

Similar scenes were captured at other venues around the city. The Ravan Dahan programme organised in Kalani Nagar saw the burning of 51 feet effigy.

This year’s effigy was water- proof with a lot of focus being paid on its overall design.

The festive buzz began since morning as people participated in pujas in their homes. It is a tradition to perform puja of vehicles and weapons on the day.

‘Shastra pujan’ also took place in the police stations and headquarters across the city. Moreover, immersion of the Goddess witnessed huge crowds at various water bodies. Mata’s send- off was also organized in a grand manner with devotees rallying and singing ‘bhajans’ along the way. This year’s ‘Ravan Dahan’ celebrations were just as grandiose as the preceding years.
