Indore: At least seven shops were gutted in a fire that broke out in Mechanic Nagar on Thursday noon. No casualty was reported during the incident. However, goods worth lakh of rupees were damaged in the fire. Police and fire-brigade officials said the incident took place around 1.15 pm. A shop of old tyres owned by Altaf first caught fire after which the flames spread and turned intense.
The fire fighters had a tought time to contain the blaze. The fire leapt and spread to a wire repairing shop of Nadim Patel, the vehicle body repairing shop of Gurdeep Singh, tyre trader Ritesh, shop of Raju Khan, tyre godown of Noushad and Mohammad Asif.
The locals first tried to control the fire on their own and later informed the fire brigade. Witnesses, however, said fire-fighters reached the spot late due to which the flames spread to other shops. The firemen had to use 34 tanks of water and 220 liters of foam to rein in the flames. It took more than five hours to completely douse off the fire.
