Indore : The Food and Drug Administration Department has started tightening noose around food vendors to prevent adulteration for the forthcoming festive season. The department has started taking samples of various food products and branded chocolates.

Senior Food Safety Officer Manish Swami said, “Samples of various food products have been taken by us in last few days. Samples of lassi, dahi and paneer were collected from Vijay Shree Hotel located near Railway Station, Saiprasad Restaurant at Railway Station and Bhagatji Hotel at Sarwate Bus Stand.”

He further said that they were concentrating on chocolates and packed edibles this time as people are already aware of healthy food, shopkeepers are also paying attention to the products they are buying.

However, the department will take samples of sweets and mawa before the festival season to ensure quality products.

“There is huge consumption of sweets during the festive season and therefore it is essential to ensure that there is no foul play in the manufacturing process. We have also directed the officers to check whether the sweets are manufactured in safe and hygienic conditions, packing and storage is done appropriately and safety standards are followed strictly,” Swami said.

It is to be noted that the FDA Department busted a unit of fake pistachio making unit and seized more than 500 kg of fake pistachios and hundreds kilo mawa just before Diwali festival, last year.
