Indore : The Executive Council of DAVV would decide its nominee for the V-C search panel, on Monday. As the EC stood divided on NAAC Director DP Singh’s nomination for the V-C search panel in the last meeting, voting seems to be imminent during the EC meeting scheduled for Monday.
Consensus could not be reached on the name of Singh in the EC meeting held on September 11 as some members opined that it would be technical wrong to nominate him as EC nominee in the V-C search panel.
Their argument is that NAAC is a statutory body of the UGC so there would be two nominees from the UGC in the V-C search penal if Singh is nominated from the EC’s side. But EC member Chandra Shekhar Raikwar, who proposed Singh’s name, says that there is no technical issue as NAAC is an autonomous body. He further said that he would be going to propose Singh’s name again in the EC meeting. It is to be noted that the VC search panel comprises 3 members – one each from EC, UGC and Raj Bhawan. One member said that if Singh’s name would be proposed then there is every possibility of voting as some of the members are opposed to Singh’s name.
Voting equation
There are 17 members in the EC. Three are from UTD campus including acting vice chancellor Ashutosh Mishra, Ganesh Kawadia, PK Gupta and one from private college Taranjeet Sood. Five are from government colleges including DK Gupta, Usha Krishnan, Pushplata Kesari, Ashok Verma, Nasreen Rahman Shaikh, and two are state government representatives — RS Verma, Alpana Mishra. Besides, there are six members who represent Chancellor in the EC viz Vikrant Bhuria, Jamila Jaliwala, TG Kutty Memon, Dr Krishna Kumar Tiwari, Chandra Shekar Raikwar and Sunita Chandra. If voting took place, votes of government college principals and Chancellor’s representatives in the EC could play decisive role. However, there is said to be division among both the factions. In case somebody is absent and there is equality of votes, the VC can cast vote in addition to his vote as member.
