DAVV TOLD TO REFUND FEES OF STUDENTS OF GREEN CARD HOLDERS

Indore: Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court directed Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya ( DAVV) to refund tuition fees of two MTech degree holder students who belong to families having green cards. Under Green Card Scheme, students are exempted from tuition fee if their parents undergo family planning surgery after two children.

“ Parents of Ravi Kolate and Sourav Kanase had under gone family planning surgery in 2003 under the said scheme. Both the students were entitled for the benefits of the scheme but the university still charged them fees,” said their advocate Md Iqbal Ahmed.

When their request of exemption under the scheme fell on deaf year, the students moved a petition in the court. After listing to both the parties, Justice SC Sharma ruled that the university should have given the benefit of the scheme to the petitioners and directed it to refund the fee.

Advocate Ahmed said that Kolate would get a sum of Rs 1.39 lakh and Sourav Rs 1.05 lakh from the university.He stated that the State Government had exempted children of all the families with green cards from tuition fee of medical, engineering, and polytechnic colleges about a decade back.
