Indore : BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the juvenile accused in rape and murder of Nirbhaya walked away because the bill proposing amendments to try accused aged between 16 and 18 as adults was held up due to disruption of the proceedings in the House by the Congress on ‘National Herald’ issue.

Vijayvargiya was addressing media persons here on Sunday during his brief visit to the city. Vijayvargiya said that the bill proposing to try accused aged between 16 and 18 as adults for heinous crimes was passed by the Lok Sabha.

However, when the bill was put up in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress disrupted the proceedings in the House using the National Herald case as an excuse and this caused the juvenile accused in rape and murder of Nirbhaya to walk away free.

Commenting on National Herald case, Vijayvargiya said that late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had sought jail while her daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi and grandson Rahul Gandhi sought bail.

National Herald was founded by Jawaharlal Nehru with nationwide presence. A case was filed in the lower court in 2012 alleging that a not for profit company controlled by the Gandhi family had acquired Herald’s assets worth Rs 5000 crore.

The case kicked up a storm and after bouncing around for nearly three years, the Gandhi family was given relief when the court granted them and their associates a bail on finishing personal bonds.

On the question of Kirti Azad’s allegations against Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Vijayvargiya said that if such allegations are leveled at a man like Jaitley then every politician is corrupt in the country and added that Jaitley is one of the cleanest politicians in the country.

Vijayvargiya concluded his remarks by saying that police in West Bengal acts as Trinmool Congress leaders and BJP will continue to protest and build up party strength by protesting against the TMC government and WB police.
