Khetia (Barwani, Madhya Pradesh): Tin sheds were uprooted and some animals were washed away as heavy rain and strong winds lashed rural areas on Wednesday evening. However, no human loss was reported.
Additional Tehsildar Hukum Singh Nigwal and administrative officials left for villages affected by rain. Area MLA Chandrabhaga Kirade also visited the sites to assess the damage.
In adjoining Malgaon village, the roofs of forest dwellers were blown away, drenching household goods. Villager Santosh said food was washed away in rain and they had to sit outside their houses at night.
The culvert built near Bhatki village has been cut off from both the sides hindering the traffic. The bus on Dhawadi-Barwani route stopped plying.
The maximum harm was caused in Mortalai village where 21 houses and shops were damaged in Mortalai. In all, 6 goats, two cows, two calves and chickens died, while fair price ration shop was flooded with water. The roads have become muddy and power supply has been interrupted as transformer fell.
MLA Kirade said officials have reached villages. “We are also keeping tabs on the situation. We will try to ensure that whoever has suffered losses should get compensation,” he added.
