Indore : ‘Crime Watch’, a service launched by the city police to curb crimes with the help of citizens has logged information on narcotics, traffic, ATM cards, anti-social elements, betting and gambling, loud DJ sounds and harassment over mobile phones the most. The total number of information logged on is 240.
It may be recalled that the city police had launched the ‘Crime Watch’ service and three numbers were provided with one for mobile calling, one for WhatsApp and one landline number for the public to inform about crimes. The name and number of callers are kept anonymous.
The calls are logged and passed on to relevant police stations, PCR Vans or Dial 100 vehicles which intervene as soon as possible and prevent a crime from happening. It has also helped a woman find her lost bag containing jewellery and cash recently.
Based on calls the police were able to break up a fight in a pub, intercept illicit liquor traders, bust gambling and betting dens.
Other successes
Among other successes the Crime Watch counselled a woman who was harassing a man, booked two persons for harassing a woman on the phone, booked several persons who defrauded a number of people by selling them plots with forged documents. The Watch has also attracted the transgender community and they expressed their desire to help the police via the service.
