Indore : A high drama was witnessed at Tukoganj police station on Friday when BJP corporator Prem Jarwal along with his supporters approached the cops alleging that a security guard had opened fire on him when he tried to prevent an attempt to grab a piece of government land near Pancham Ki Phel.
The police have booked six persons for attempted murder after Jarwal lodged a formal complaint. Jarwal later told Free Press that he had reached the land situated near Pancham Ki Phel after his supporters informed him the attempt by a group to take its possession.
The group had erected fence around the land and were laying down gravel, when Jarwal and his supporters reached the spot. A heated argument ensued following which two guards posted at the site summoned for support. As the matter escalated, one of the guards opened fire.
The police claimed that the guard, Angad Singh, discharged his rifle in the air. Jarwal alleged that the .12-bore rifle was trained at him and he narrowly escaped as the pellets missed him. Angad Singh confessed that the shot was fired but claimed that it was an inadvertent move.
The police have registered cases against Angad Singh, Joheb Khan, Ashok, Ganpat, Nirmal and Pawan under Sections 307, 294, 506, 34 of the IPC. Tukoganj police claimed that Angad and Joheb Khan have been detained following Jarwal’s complaint.
The police further said that the nature of dispute related to the land is yet not clear. At present, the land was registered to the group owners and the matter was being heard by the court, they claimed. Residents of the area have been claiming that it was government land, often used by them for various functions.
