Amroha: Farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha ploughed the standing cauliflower crops with their tractors. Notably, farmers took the step as they feared heavy losses after cauliflower's selling price dropped to Rs 1 per kg for over a week at local markets in the district.

The video of farmers destroying the crops also surfaced online. Amroha farmers usually sell their produce in local markets which in turn supply these to large ‘mandis' in Delhi-NCR and Uttarakhand, reported The Times of India. As per the media report, this year, the cauliflower crop was sown in over 5,000 hectares of land.

Here Is The Video:

Shockingly, cauliflower was sold to consumers at Rs 10-15 per kg in retail markets, locals told the media house. The difference in the price is due to middlemen.

"More than Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 are spent per bigha in growing cauliflower and cabbage. Wholesale prices were stable initially. It was Rs 30-40 in wholesale markets in Dec-Jan. But as supply surged, prices crashed. Now, farmers are being forced to vacate their fields," Laal Singh Saini, a farmer from Amroha's Mohammadpur Patti, told TOI.

The farmer claimed that in Delhi cauliflower was sold at around Rs 300 per quintal. He also highlighted the high transport cost incurred for shifting the crop to markets in Delhi. Due to this reason, it appeared to be a loss-making deal for the farmers in Amroha.

Initially, the wholesale price of cauliflower in the markets was good, but as the produce increased in the markets, the price kept falling.
